The Ni-SiC composite layer was found to be formed when the coating composition was about 25-75 %wt under the laser processing used. The thickness of the layer is about 120 microns. The composite layer exhibits hardness of about 395 HV which is nearly 4 times higher than the A1-12Si aluminum alloy. The paper discusses the microstructure, microhardness and XRD studies made on the laser treated samples.
