520 |a A research study was performed in order to explore the processing induced properties in liquid silicone rubber (LSR) moldings, such as the existence of anisotropic properties. The test samples were analyzed in the direction of flow as well as transverse to flow. The DMA data outputted the material's complex moduli at different frequencies in the direction of flow of the polymer chains as well as transvers to flow. A DOE was also constructed to analyze the processing induced effects on the material's mechanical behavior. The average change between measurements with material flow and transverse material flow at the gate end of the parts was 23.3%. At the opposite gate end of the parts the average was 17.4% change. The highest change was examined during run 8 at 52.8% near the gate of the part. The lowest change happened at run 2 near the gate end of the part with 1.6% change. The analyzed data concludes that injection molded liquid silicone parts do show characteristics of anisotropic behavior in their mechanical properties.
